Heartless nanny dumps baby and robs home

By Karabo Rammutla

A mother was shocked when she received a call from her neighbours informing her that her baby was outside the house and crying.

The nanny had left the baby crying outside its home in Mooikloof, Tshwane, while she allegedly robbed the house of its electrical appliances, expensive phones and other valuable items.

The baby’s mother, who had hired the Zimbabwean nanny through an agency, said the woman speaks Shona and English and she is in her 20s.

“She told me her name is Shaime Ncube, but I doubt it is her real name,” the mother said.

When the mother got home she found the baby in the care of her neighbours. When she went into her own house, she discovered that it was empty.

She believes the nanny fled with all her valuables.

The police have opened a case of theft and are urging anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact the nearest police station.

The incident has left the mother traumatised. She is urging parents to be vigilant when hiring nannies. She advises parents to ask for identification and thoroughly verify the information provided by the nanny and the agency before hiring anyone.

This incident is not the first of its kind. There have been several instances of nannies robbing their employers.

Parents rely on nannies to take care of their children and should take extra precautions to ensure the safety of both the child and the household.
