Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton claimed victory at the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, which took place at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. This is the first time the circuit has been used since 2015.
The British racing driver began his quest for his record 8th world title by beating Max Verstappen of Redbull into second place with teammate Valtteri Bottas in third.
Despite relentless pressure from Max Verstappen, Hamilton showed class and maturity throughout the race. He showed character by coming from behind to clinch the win.
Hamilton is currently tied with legendary Michael Schumacher for the most World Drivers’ Championship wins. They have both won the title seven times.
Hamilton said on twitter that he loved the challenge, which he endured until the end of the race.
“What a way to start the season! I love this sport and I loved every minute of this race,” he said.
“Today is a reminder that through harnessing and channeling our collective power we can accomplish great things. It’s great to be back.”
Next up in the Formula calendar, the road leads to the Monza Autodromo for the Italian Grand Prix on 18 April.
