Lindiwe Khumalo was shot and killed while filming a gang of four armed men who entered her neighbour’s yard in Tembisa.
The men had entered the yard for the second time that day – Friday 9 February – making a lot of noise and fighting with her neighbours who were also Lindiwe’s relatives.
Lindiwe, standing on her property, went to the fence to find out what was going on. That was when one of the men pointed a gun at her and shot her dead.
Lindiwe’s mother, Smangele Khumalo, told Scrolla.Africa the men were seen carrying golf clubs.
“While she was standing inside her yard speaking to the men on the other side of the fence, she lifted her phone and started taking a video,” said Smangele.
“That was when one of the men pulled out a gun and shot her.”
The family rushed Lindiwe to hospital but she died before she could get there.
Smangele said the family has shared the video with the police. In the short video clip, the men are clearly seen talking to Lindiwe over the fence.
Lindiwe was the well-known owner of the Lords and Ballerinas Beauty Salon in Tembisa.
“Her biggest market was matric students … she also had many young women clients coming to her salon. This has left a big void, not only to us as a family but also to the community,” said Smangele.
On Thursday, family, friends, and community members gathered at Lindiwe’s home in Tembisa’s Ntshonalanga Section for a candlelight ceremony.
Lindiwe, who was remembered as a loving and caring person, will be laid to rest at Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa on Saturday.
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said police are investigating a case of murder. No one has been arrested.
