- Three armed men robbed guards at Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha early on Sunday.
- The department promises counselling for victims and vows to help police catch suspects.
Three armed men robbed security guards at gunpoint at Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha, leaving the workers shaken but unharmed.
The robbery happened just before 1am on Sunday, when the suspects walked through the hospitalโs main entrance opposite Shoprite and attacked the three female guards inside the guard house.
Eastern Cape Department of Health spokesperson Siyanda Manana said the men took the guardsโ personal phones and a company cellphone.
โNo staff or patients were affected during the incident,โ said Manana.
He said a similar robbery happened at the same hospital last year, and the department would provide counselling to help the guards recover from the trauma.
Manana slammed the ongoing violence at public health facilities in Nelson Mandela Bay.
โWe condemn these attacks. Healthcare facilities must be protected at all costs because such incidents trample on our peopleโs rights to healthcare and safety,โ he said.
The department is working closely with the police to find the culprits.
โWe ask anyone who saw or heard anything to contact the police, so the robbers can be brought to justice,โ said Manana.
