- Detectives are investigating the killings but say the reason for the attack remains unclear.
Police are hunting for the killers of three family members who were shot dead in their home in Soweto-on-Sea on Sunday evening.
The victims are two women aged 40 and 65, and a nine-year-old girl. All three were found dead inside their house in Malibale Street.
Community members called police after hearing gunshots just after 7.30pm. Officers from Kwazakele station rushed to the scene.
Paramedics tried to help but declared all three dead when they arrived.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said detectives from the serious violent crime unit are now handling the case.
“Police will stamp their authority in ensuring that those involved are caught,” Mawisa said. “They will leave no stone unturned.”
She said the reason for the killings and what exactly happened remain unclear. Any weapons used in the crime will be taken by police.
The three victims’ names will only be released once their families have officially identified them.
