The interim chairperson of ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal has resigned after allegedly pointing a gun at the provincial spokesperson.

Tensions boiled over at an executive meeting in April, culminating in chairperson Musa Kubheka pulling out a gun and pointing it at the spokesperson, Busi Hadebe.

Sources have told Scrolla.Africa that Khubheka has been embroiled in serious party infighting in recent weeks, leading to the incident.

“The problem started when Kubheka was no longer getting along with provincial spokesperson Busi Hadebe,” the source told Scrolla.Africa.

“It was bad in such a way that in a provincial executive meeting that was held in April, Kubheka lost his cool and took out his gun in the middle of the meeting to point it at Hadebe.”

Kubheka was appointed in February following the dismissal of Dr Makhozi Khoza in December and now leaves the provincial wing of the party in a state of turmoil.

Members have accused Khubeka of failing to grow the party.

They have called for him to resign and he has responded by telling them that he is stepping down as the interim chairperson.

The party has already dissolved the eThekwini regional structure due to the internal infighting.

Kubheka has denied the allegations, telling Scrolla.Africa that he initially decided to resign due to personal reasons but later revealed that his life was under threat, as there are leaders who don’t want him as a provincial leader.

“They even lied that I pointed a gun at another member and I really don’t know how because I am a pastor and I don’t have a gun. This is a smear campaign by those who are still working with Dr Makhosi Khoza,” said Kubheka.

Hadebe could not be reached for comment. He confirmed that he is still a caucus leader of the party as a councillor in the eThekwini metro municipality.

Party spokesperson Lerato Ngobeni confirmed that the senate is investigating claims that a gun was pointed at a member but she would not comment further.

She said that Kubheka told the party that he had resigned because of family reasons.
