Grandpa survives a snowstorm on left-over croissants

An 81-year-old man was trapped for several days in his car during a snowstorm in California and was grateful to find leftover croissants in the vehicle.

After he had polished off the last crumb of the croissants he had to find other ways of surviving, so he ate snow.

On 24 February, Jerry Jouret jumped into his car for a trip that should have taken an hour.

He told his family he would take an alternate route because the extreme weather conditions closed the major highways, Insider reports.

But the snow made visibility poor and forced him to turn onto a smaller road, where he got stuck. He was less than 10 km from home.

Trapped in his not-so-luxurious Ford Escape, Jouret found no way to do what his car was named after.

Realising he could not escape he thanked his lucky stars that he had some leftover croissants in the car.

After Jouret failed to return home after four days, his family decided it was time to file a missing persons report.

Another snowstorm delayed the search but the police did in fact cross paths with Jouret. His car was so deeply buried in the snow they assumed it was a rock.

However, six hours later a helicopter spotted that it was a car, and Jouret was rescued.

He was sent to the local hospital for a checkup, with his family saying he smiled the whole way there.

Jouret had survived seven days and six nights in his car.

“I really believe it was a miracle,” Jouret’s brother Joe told Patch.
