KwaZulu-Natal’s gospel singers allegedly feared that when the prestigious Crown Gospel Awards move to Soweto this year, they will be left off the programme.
For the past 15 years, the event has been a cornerstone of KZN’s entertainment industry, but now it will be hosted in Gauteng.
Scrolla.Africa learnt that a group of artists involved with the awards ceremony feared they may be excluded from the event.
However, during an interview with Scrolla.Africa, gospel singer Thulani Ga Ndlela dismissed these concerns.
“Why would I complain, because this event comes once a year? I am more than happy with the move, and it will change the perception that these awards are created for KZN artists.
“We are very excited, because it shows that there is funding for it,” said Ndlela.
The announcement of the Crown Gospel Awards’ relocation to Orlando Stadium in Soweto was made by the Gauteng Government last week at The Wanderers Club in Johannesburg.
This year’s awards ceremony is scheduled for 26 November, when the red carpet will be rolled out in Orlando.
Efforts to reach Crown Gospel Awards founder Zanele laMbokati Nkambule for comments were unsuccessful.
