Golden Arrows have inched one step closer to snatching that one remaining continental spot by beating TS Galaxy 3-0 in Durban on Wednesday.
Continental football allows four teams from South Africa to compete – two in the CAF Champions League and the remaining two in the Confederation Cup.
Log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns look set to return to the Champions League next season as they only need to win one of four matches to be crowned DStv Premiership champions for the fourth time in a row.
Second place AmaZulu are also set to join Masandawana in the Champions League. Usuthu, like Arrows, has never played in the CAF competitions.
If Orlando Pirates win all four remaining matches they could ruin Arrows’ dreams.
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila are guaranteed to play in the Confederation Cup after winning the Nedbank Cup.
Abafana Bes’thende [Golden Arrows] have two games left and should things go their way they could become the first KwaZulu-Natal teams, together with Usuthu, to play at the continental stage next season.
Arrows coach Mandla Ncikazi is however not carried away by the prospect of being the first coach to take them to the continental showpiece.
“We still have finals against Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch. We will go as far as we can. Whatever happens we will be proud as a team,” he said.
Midweek DStv Premiership results:
Cape Town City 0-0 Maritzburg United; Chippa 1-2 Celtic; Baroka 0-0 Tshakhuma; Stellenbosch 0-0 Swallows
