Gogo Maweni shuts down indumba as baby bump grows

  • Gogo Maweni will stop all in-person client consultations from 1 June 2025 as she prepares to give birth to twins.
  • She is also facing ongoing legal trouble, including a 2019 assault case and investigations into four separate murder cases.

Popular traditional healer Gogo Maweni is taking a break from in-person consultations as she prepares for the birth of her twins.

In a public statement, Maweni — whose real name is Makgotso Mofokeng — announced that her consulting room, known as a ndumba, will close on 1 June 2025. However, her online store and phone consultations will remain open.

“Please take note that due to our pregnancy, my ndumba will be closed for face-to-face consultations… Only the store and telephonic consultations will continue,” she said.

Maweni thanked her loyal clients, saying: “I am truly grateful. Looking forward to seeing y’all again after our twins are born.”

But her pregnancy isn’t the only reason she’s making headlines.

Early this year, Maweni appeared in court on 27 January for an assault case linked to a 2019 incident.

She was granted bail of R5,000. The case involves claims that she hit someone with a bottle during a dispute over a stolen cellphone.

Prosecutors say she threatened the victim and claimed she could bribe the police. They also told the court that Maweni had lied about her criminal history when she first appeared.

Her past includes a 2017 assault conviction with a three-year suspended sentence, a 2009 traffic case with a suspended sentence, and a 2018 fraud case where she was fined R20,000 or given six months in jail — also suspended.

The state argued that she should not get bail, pointing out that she was already under a suspended sentence when the 2019 incident happened.

But her lawyer said her high-risk pregnancy and poor prison healthcare could lead to a miscarriage and ruin her business.

Authorities are now looking into possible links between Maweni and four murder cases in Eldorado Park, Mondeor, Orange Farm and Bekkersdal between 2020 and 2024. She hasn’t been charged in those cases.

Maweni insists she is innocent and says she won’t interfere with the investigation.

Despite the growing legal cloud, Maweni still enjoys support from her followers as she juggles motherhood and her legal battles.
