A huge asteroid is heading towards Earth’s orbit in September, according to the US space agency NASA.
The asteroid is called 2021 NY1, and is due to shoot by on 22 September, according to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory asteroid tracker.
NASA is tracking 17 other incoming objects heading towards Earth.
The good news is that it will pass our planet, about 1.5 million kilometres away (the moon orbits us at a distance of about 350,000 kilometres).
The asteroid’s diameter is 130 to 300 metres. (A smaller one of 71 metres to 160 metres was due to fly by on 1 September).
The really good news is that NASA believes that Earth is not at risk of being hit by an asteroid for the next century.
