Ghost sightings in the Zimbabwean town of Gutu were on the rise, but the ghoulish presence turned out to be a burglar in disguise.
He wore a ghost costume in order to frighten victims so that he could rob them more easily.
Consumed with fear, his victims would run thinking they have just seen a ghost before the terrifying trickster helped himself to their belongings.
But the phantom fiend’s antics didn’t work for long, and he has now been exposed and arrested.
He was caught when one house owner ran after him when he was trying to steal their solar panels.
The ghostly criminal has been identified by Zimbabwe police as 27-year-old Norman Chagwia.
The National Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed to the Zimbabwean media that they are investigating two cases of burglary against the suspect.
“He stole a ladder at one house and was caught in another one when he was trying to steal and the owner chased after him,” Nyathi told NewsDay newspaper.
The police in the area have also warned the public to be cautious as they report that cases of robbery are on the rise.
