They had it well planned and their mission was accomplished when they managed to rob a cell phone shop at the mall.
But the three armed suspects threw the stolen phones away when they saw their getaway car speeding off without them.
This was after the getaway car driver realised his armed buddies were being chased on foot by cops.
The robbery had been committed at the cell phone shop in Boulevard mall, Sasolburg after one pretended to be a potential customer.
The shop staff opened the locker and placed the cell phones on the counter with the aim of assisting the customer.
Two entered the store with guns and all three men fled with some cell phones before the owner alerted the security.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said the suspects then threw the stolen phones on the ground.
He told Scrolla.Africa: “The suspects had a getaway Ford Icon that was waiting for them. But it sped off leaving the fleeing three suspects after the driver noticed that his accomplices were being chased by the police.”
Police arrested three suspects who will appear at the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on 5 August
The driver is still at large.
