The Korean drama that became a global sensation, Squid Game, will return to our screens for a second season.
Netflix announced the news with a 10-second teaser trailer, showing the eye of the iconic “red light, green light” doll along with its creepy nursery rhyme.
The show follows down-on-his-luck protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who joins a competition in which he is forced to compete to the death with 456 strangers in a series of deadly playground games. The competitor who can stay alive the longest wins R570 million.
The show was a phenomenal success, becoming Netflix’s most-ever watched series and the most-watched programme in 94 countries.
Netflix’s announcement on Sunday was accompanied by a message from the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, who thanked fans for “watching and loving” the show.
To many fans’ relief, he confirmed the return of some of its most beloved characters.
