Gauteng shivers through freezing weekend mornings

By Rorisang Modiba

  • Pretoria will drop to 6°C in the mornings with highs of up to 19°C and no rain expected.
  • Johannesburg will start at 5°C both days, warming to 16°C and 18°C, with light winds and dry air.

If you’re planning to be outdoors this weekend, Gauteng’s skies will play along, but dress warmly, especially in the mornings.

The South African Weather Service says the province will be cold but dry, with no rain expected. That means a peaceful weekend of clear skies and calm winds.

Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said people in the south of Gauteng can expect the chilliest mornings, possibly with frost. The north will be a little warmer during the day.

In Pretoria, early mornings will dip to 6°C on both Saturday and Sunday. But once the sun comes out, it will warm up to 18°C on Saturday and 19°C on Sunday.

Humidity will range between 40% and 75%. The wind will stay light, reaching up to 10km/h — blowing from the east in the morning and the south-west in the evening.

Johannesburg residents can also expect chilly starts. The mornings will sit at 5°C and warm up to 16°C on Saturday and 18°C on Sunday. There won’t be much wind, just a light breeze under 5km/h.

Sunday morning in Joburg could feel a little more damp, with humidity around 60%, but no clouds are expected to build into rain.
