Marumo Gallants secured a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout win over Golden Arrows on Sunday to advance to the Carling Knockout Cup final.
The match, played at the King Zwelithini Stadium, ended 2-2 after extra time, with Gallants’ goalkeeper Washington Arubi the hero in the shootout.
Arrows took the lead through Isaac Cisse, but Gallants levelled through Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and took the lead via Daniel Msendami. Arrows fought back to level the game, with Nqobeko Dlamini scoring a classy equaliser.
In the shootout, Arubi pulled off two stunning saves to deny Brandon Theron and Thabo Matlaba, before Ibrahim Bance scored the winning penalty to secure Gallants’ place in the final.
On Saturday, Orlando Pirates booked their spot in the final with a 1-0 win over Richards Bay, thanks to Tshepang Moremi’s 42nd-minute goal.
The Bucs dominated the game, with Moremi’s goal coming after a fine long ball from Oswin Appollis.
Gallants will now face Pirates in the final, looking to claim the Carling Knockout Cup title.
Pirates will be looking to add to their trophy haul, having won the MTN8 title in September with the showpiece game set to be contested at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in December.
