Elon Musk is said to have had an affair with Nicole Shanahan, the wife of a long-time friend.
Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, filed for divorce in January, explaining the couple had irreparable differences, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The affair is said to have taken place at the Art Basel festival which attracts art collectors to Miami Beach in Florida.
Brin supplied Musk’s electric company Tesla with massive financial support when it was under financial pressure in 2008.
The friendship understandably has turned sour since the allegations with Musk reportedly dropping to his knees asking Brin for forgiveness at a party.
Musk has since denied the allegations on Twitter, claiming he hadn’t seen Shanahan in three years.
“This is total BS,” 51-year-old Musk claimed on Twitter.
“Sergey and I are friends and were at a party together last night! I’ve only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with many other people around. Nothing romantic.”
The South African born businessman has faced several controversies in recent months, including a botched attempt to buy social media company Twitter. In May he was accused of exposing himself to a flight attendant on a private aircraft.
This month it was reported he was having twins with one of his executive staff members two weeks before having a child with his former partner Grimes.
Musk responded on Twitter that he was “doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis”.
Brin helped establish Google with Larry Page in 1998 and is one of the more influential members in the company.
The 48-year-old has one child with his soon to be former wife.
“I hope for Sergey and I to move forward with dignity, honesty and harmony for the sake of our child. We are both working towards that,” Nicole told Puck.
