A video of a woman said to be Zanele Sifuba performing sexual acts has been leaked online.
Sifuba, who is the speaker of the Free State legislature, allegedly filmed herself masturbating in what appears to be a video call with a naked male.
Sifuba, an ANC member, is now among the likes of Malusi Gigaba and Daisy Maseleme, all ANC members caught naked on camera.
It is alleged that the man who leaked the tape used it to attempt to extort R300,000 from the politician and when she refused to pay he released the video.
The tape has drawn mixed reactions from social media users.
While some are sympathetic to Sifuba and calling for the man who leaked the video to be prosecuted others say the speaker brought this on herself.
Speaker Sifuba denied that the person in the video was her.
In a statement by Free State Legislature spokesperson, Life Mokone, she said the originator of the video is a faceless thug who has been trying to extort R150,000 from her.
Mokone said the person confessed that political players around the speaker paid him to fabricate a sexual content to assist them to assassinate her character.
“He said this was intended to spoil her integrity towards the ANC provincial conference and to eventually remove her as the speaker of the Free State legislature. The strategy includes cyberbullying, blackmail, harassment and character assasination should the speaker refuse to pay money,” he said.
He said a criminal case has been opened and police are investigating the matter and the speaker is seeking legal advice to deal with those who are circulating the tape.
ANC Women’s League National Working Task Team spokesperson Dina Pule said that although she had not seen the video the sharing of explicit videos of women was despicable.
“It does not matter who is in that video, we fight for the rights of women. Every woman deserves dignity and their privacy. It is a violation of somebody’s privacy. We can’t do that. Who would want to go out and record such acts? It is wrong.”
