- Registration for the Joburg Market Opportunity Centre’s free Learn and Earn programme took place on 3 March at City Deep.
- The programme covers digital literacy, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, data science, cyber awareness and business communication for Johannesburg youth and businesses.
The Joburg Market Opportunity Centre (JMOC) has called on unemployed youth and small businesses in Johannesburg to register for a free skills development programme. The programme is aimed at boosting digital knowledge and supporting business growth.
The initiative forms part of the City of Johannesburg’s pilot Learn and Earn programme. It is a partnership between the City of Johannesburg Department of Economic Development and private sector partners, including Dzuvhatech and Siyafunda.
Registration took place on 3 March at the JMOC offices in City Deep. The official launch is set for 10 March.
JMOC manager Akona Bavula said the programme is designed to equip participants with technology skills that can help improve their businesses and job prospects.
The training will cover digital literacy, artificial intelligence (AI), e-commerce, cyber awareness, data science and business communication.
Dzuvhatech Chief Information Officer Devan Naidoo said the programme supports the goals of the National Development Plan 2030 by empowering and upskilling young people. Naidoo said participants must attend all classes to receive a certificate of completion.
Dzuvhatech CEO Sipho Msolo said the programme aims to create an environment where participants can learn from each other while generating income through practical projects.
To qualify, applicants must have an operating business, a matric certificate and South African citizenship. They must also be registered on the Opportunity Centre’s database.
