The war against criminals in KwaZulu-Natal rages on. Four suspects were shot and killed in a shootout with police in Harding, KwaZulu-Natal on Monday morning.
KZN provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the fatal shooting.
He said a team comprising officers from the Hawks, K9 and other units used intelligence about a robbery which was to be executed at a mall in Harding.
“A businessman went into a bank inside the mall and withdrew an undisclosed amount of money. As he made his way out of the mall, he was attacked by the suspects who robbed him of the cash,” he said.
“Police approached the suspects who had just committed the robbery but they defied the police’s orders and opened fire. Police returned fire and four suspects were fatally wounded during the shootout.”
Colonel Netshiunda said police are still chasing more suspects who fled the scene in two vehicles. A firearm as well as the money which was robbed was found in possession of the suspects who were shot.
The police appeal to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
