Four boys, all just nine years old, have been caught in Hazelmere, KwaZulu-Natal, after breaking into homes and shops in the area.

A resident caught the youngsters on Thursday morning after finding them breaking into her house.

They were taken to Reaction Unit South Africa headquarters, where officers linked them to several burglaries in recent weeks.

Phones, sports shoes, cash, electronics and other valuables had been stolen.

According to the unit, the boys admitted selling the items to locals. But they quickly turned on each other, each blaming the others for the crime spree.

Residents told officers the boys had forced their way into shops and homes before.
