“I’ve been dribbled!” complained Lunga Sokhela, the former General Manager at AmaZulu FC.
Sokhela has opened fraud and civil cases against Sabelo Nyuswa, who works at Mooi Mpofana Municipality in the KZN Midlands.
Sokhela said he was dribbled out of R800,000 by the businessman, who is also a municipality director in corporate services.
Nyuswa, who is out on bail, appeared for the third time at the Durban Regional Court on Monday.
The matter is set for 2 June for a pre-trial. In the affidavit seen by Scrolla.Africa, Sokhela accuses Nyuswa of swindling him of R80,000 in separate incidents.
He said he and Nyuswa entered into an agreement in 2019 that they will share dividends in tenders Nyuswa had won.
Nyuswa had promised to secure food and parcels and computer distribution jobs from Ugu Municipality and King Edward Hospital.
Sokhela said he smelt a rat when time went by but no payment was forthcoming.
He said he confronted Nyuswa, who tricked him by claiming he had not been paid, but later changed the tune that the payment had been halted because of irregularities.
Sokhela said it was only after conducting his own investigation that he discovered he had been played.
Xolani Zuma, a lawyer representing Nyuswa, said they were hoping to settle the matter outside the court.
Sokhela’s lawyer, Lwazi Mnguni, confirmed the accused made an appearance in court, adding that he was awaiting his client’s directive before commenting further.
