He was immediately substituted and left the Parc de Princes to get home to his family.
At the same time the home of Marquinhos’ parents was also broken into. The Brazilian defender confirmed the news on Instagram after the game had come to a conclusion.
French football journalist Julien Laurens spoke on Monday’s talkSport Breakfast about what happened during the game on Sunday.
“It was certainly something I’ve never seen before,” said Laurens.
He said he saw Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director who was sitting in the director’s box, coming down to speak to coach Pochettino who then left his bench to go to the stands.
He said they wondered if Leonardo was telling Pochettino what to do.
“But now we know Leonardo was informing Pochettino about what happened with Di Maria’s family, the burglary and the fright they had when the robbers came in. They made the decision together to take Di Maria off.”
Reports suggest that over 500,000 euros worth of watches and jewelry was stolen from the former Manchester United winger. Marquinhos’ father was attacked and was struck in the face, ribs and chest in the robbery at their house.
