PICK OF THE SPORT: Liverpool have uncharacteristically been out of form this season but a win over Arsenal could be the Reds back in full swing.
➤ With only two wins in seven Premier League matches, Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team have been struggling this season.
But a victory over high-flying Arsenal could be the spark Liverpool need to get back on track before it is too late.
The fixture is a must-win for both teams for very different reasons.
Liverpool need the win to regain some sort of confidence or risk slipping into the bottom half of the table.
Arsenal on the other hand are at the top of the table – one point ahead of Manchester City and won’t want to concede momentum to Pep Guardiola’s side.
City look all but certain to occupy the top of the table on Saturday when they face Southampton before Arsenal take to the Emirates Stadium to host Liverpool on Sunday at
5.30pm.
All the Premier League action throughout the weekend will be available live on DStv channel 203.
➤ Formula 1 is serving up an early bird special this weekend in Japan with popping of champagne corks on the cards.
As the sport heads to the Suzuka Grand Prix, fans in South Africa will have to set their alarm clocks in time for the early race start time.
It could however be an occasion not to be missed as Red Bull driver Max Verstappen looks guaranteed to clinch his second consecutive driver’s championship.
If the Dutch driver wins the race with the extra point for having the fastest lap, he will be crowned champion.
Formula 1 also returns to Japan for the first time since 2019 after the next two years were cancelled due to Covid-19.
Lights out is set for 7am on Sunday with the race live on DStv channel 215.
➤ The Women’s Rugby World Cup kicks off in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday when South Africa and France face each other in the opening match.
The brave South African ladies will have to hit the ground running. They have never finished higher than 10th in the competition while the French team, ranked fourth in the world, are seen as serious front runners to win the cup. South Africa is ranked 11th in the world.
The South Africans have never beaten the French with three losses and a single draw from four outings, but the South Africans have never given anything less than their best, and this match will be no different.
Match schedule: 8 October, France at Eden Park (3:15am)
16 October, Fiji at Waitakere Stadium (6:45am)
23 October, England at Waitakere Stadium (6:45am)
All the action can be watched live on DStv channel 201 and 211.
➤ All four South African teams are in action in the United Rugby Championship this weekend.
Edinburgh are highly favoured to smash the Lions on Friday night – but the Lions have been upsetting the tables and anybody who expects the Lions to roll over and play dead like nice kitties is in for a surprise.
The Stormers have left their big guns at home for their away match to Zebre in Italy and that may cost them, but that brilliant Stormers backline will not easily be stopped. A match to savour.
Oh, dear! The Sharks haven’t kicked into high gear yet, and there is nothing to indicate that they can make a dent in the armour of a well-organised Leinster team.
The match of the URC weekend is between the Bulls who play the Glasgow Warriors away. The Bulls should win, but the weather may intervene and those stubborn Scots are not on the field to lose.
All the URC action will be live on DStv channel 211.
