First a house, then a wife, says Sjava

Sjava’s much-anticipated album Isibuko has been warmly received by loyal fans and music lovers alike.

While the rapper and actor is enjoying his popularity, he is focused entirely on providing for his family.

“For now my immediate focus is on raising money to build a nice big house for my mother who single-handedly raised her children in the village,” he told Scrolla.Africa

“After that, when I’m financially stable, I’ll pluck up the courage to go the marriage route and hopefully I’ll find the right one.”

Sjava caused a buzz on social media last Friday when he released the album which has come out five years since his last studio work.

The 18-track album exposes a deeply introspective side of the musician, born Jabulani Hadebe, from Bergville in KwaZulu-Natal.

Featured in the album are Emtee, Saudi, maskandi musicians Shwi, Mzukulu and Dumakahle and Anzo from his own record label 1020.

Sjava however explained that his main focus is to build a house for his mother and not to get married.

Reacting to the rave reviews of his latest offering, the ever modest Sjava said it was overwhelming and showed that fans have been yearning for his work.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last eight years. I look forward to us continuing this musical journey together in the future,” he said.

The album title translates to Mirror which is fitting as Sjava said it is a reflection of his recent journey.

“Basically it speaks to my experiences and growth as a person and as a musician. While cooking up the album I spent two weeks in my village, taking stock of what has happened in my life,” he said.

“I enlisted the services of my long-time producer and partner Ruff while Delayed, Webmoms and Vuyo Manyike conceptualised the essence of the project and recorded the initial music and album vocals.”

Songs like “Thixo”, “Amakhehla”, “Akabuye”, “Ithuna”, “Amaphiko” and “My Life” have been on the radio since the album launched.
