- Fire breaks out during the filming of the popular soap Skeem Saam, sending two crew members to hospital.
- Blaze causes thousands of rands in damage to equipment at Johannesburg’s Sasani Studios.
A fire at Sasani Studios in Johannesburg injured two Skeem Saam crew members on Monday afternoon.
The fire broke out while the hit SABC1 show was filming. Cast members, including Hungani Ndlovu, Clement Maosa, Mogau Motlhatswi and Eric Macheru, were on set at the time.
Two staff members were taken to hospital with injuries, while the rest of the cast and crew got out safely. The fire damaged expensive filming equipment, with costs likely to run into thousands of rands.
SABC Head of Communications Mmoni Ngubane confirmed the incident.
“The fire is said to have caused damage worth thousands of rands in equipment. However, we still need to assess the magnitude of the damage.”

“The SABC confirms that a fire occurred at Sasani Studios on the set of SABC1’s flagship drama, Skeem Saam, resulting in two crew members being injured and hospitalised,” he said, Zimoja reported.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela shared news of the fire on X on Monday, 26 February. He reported that filming was taking place when the fire started.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. The SABC says it is investigating the incident.
