Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube’s State of the Province Address on Wednesday – a usually staid and sober event – was enlivened by glitz and glam this year.
Several politicians wore designer outfits while others attended the event in traditional Zulu attire.
King Misuzulu kaZwelithini wore a stylish navy suit while Umngeni mayor Chris Pappas turned heads in a purple suit.
ActionSA KZN leader Zwakele Mncwango wore a black striped suit and said: “I’m looking good because of my wife. She made sure that I’m wearing this suit to honour this event.”
MEC for Health Nomagugu Simelane Mngadi was a show-stopper in a blue dress decorated with shining gems, while IFP Women’s Brigade chair Princess Phumzile Buthelezi wore a dazzling long gold dress.
Zinhle Mbatha Cele, a member of the KZN Legislature, matched her blonde hair with a gold skirt and floral shirt.
The MEC for Public Works, Sipho KK Nkosi, dominated the red carpet with his pink suit and a Palestinian scarf, called a keffiyeh.
He was not the only one – most ANC leaders came to the Oval Cricket Stadium wearing similar attire to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The EFF brigade wore their usual signature red overalls and domestic workers’ uniforms.
The theme of the address was a celebration of 30 years of democracy.
