A Ghananian farmer dreamt he was cutting meat for his family meal.
The man, who was deep in sleep, was in fact using a knife to cut off his own testicles.
The 47-year old man, known as Kofi Atta, had dozed off in an armchair. He told BBC Pidgin that he dreamt that he was cutting some meat in front of him.
“I don’t remember how I picked up the knife, even I am confused,” he said.
He woke up covered in blood.
“I stood up and felt a sharp pain in my genitals,” he said.
The farmer didn’t know what he’d done, but he knew he needed help. He called his two neighbours, who rushed him to the St Francis Xavier hospital in Assin Fosu.
He reportedly came out of the dream state when in hospital when he was told that he had actually cut off his testicles and not meat as he dreamt.
His wife, Adwoa Konadu, told BBC that this was not the first time her husband has carried out a bizarre activity while sleeping.
She said he frequently moves, converses, and occasionally fights while he is asleep.
