- Many fans on social media said the trophy looks like a Hubbly Bubbly pipe and slammed the artist who designed it.
- Mamelodi Sundowns players joked about how heavy it is, but said they still like it after lifting it.
Football fans were shocked when they saw the new Betway Premiership trophy. Instead of being impressed, they laughed and mocked it online.
Some said it looks like a hubbly bubbly pipe. Others said the artist who made it should never design anything again.
One fan wrote on X: “For 12 months and that was his ‘best’?” Another said, “This guy must never design anything ever again, especially the trophy.”

The trophy was made by well-known artist Nelson Makamo. He said it was “a love letter to football” and that it honours everyone who helped grow the game, TimesLIVE reported.
But that didn’t stop people from mocking it.
Mamelodi Sundowns became the first team to win the new trophy. They were not bothered by the jokes.
Goalkeeper Denis Onyango laughed about how big it is.
“It’s heavy like the cheque they gave us,” he said. “The medals are very nice. The trophy is also nice, don’t get me wrong. The money is nice, and the season has been good.”
Captain Themba Zwane said: “It’s a beautiful trophy, but it’s heavy. I think I must go to the gym more.”
Coach Miguel Cardoso said it means a lot to the team.
“Before winning the players, we had to win the man,” he said. “This trophy has a special meaning.”
It is the fifth time the Premiership trophy has changed since the league started in 1996.
