A woman jumped on stage and tried to kiss DJ Maphorisa while he was performing.
Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa, was behind the decks when the fan rushed into the DJ booth, holding a drink in one hand.
She leaned in close, possibly trying to kiss him. Maphorisa looked stunned and quickly pulled back. Security stepped in fast and removed her from the stage without any drama.
But the moment, which was caught on video, is now trending online, with users split on who was in the wrong.
“Imagine seeing your girlfriend do this. People have no boundaries!” wrote one person on X, backing the DJ.
Others, though, felt Maphorisa overreacted and should have handled it better.
“What DJ Maphorisa did was wrong,” wrote one user. “The woman was showing love, he could’ve just kissed her on the cheek.”
Some even brought up Scotts Maphuma, a rising DJ said to be Maphorisa’s protégé, who was recently slammed for being rude to fans. They said the two acts were just as bad.
Many pointed out that if the roles were reversed, and it was a man doing this to a woman, the backlash would be a lot worse.
“There’s a clear double standard,” someone posted. “Why is it okay when a woman does it, but not when a man does?”
Others worried about the woman’s feelings, saying being rejected in public like that could cause serious emotional harm. “What Maphorisa did can’t be undone. Depression loading…” said one comment.
So far, the star has stayed quiet about the drama. But fans think he might break his silence soon, maybe on Instagram Live.
Just last week, he slammed podcasts for creating drama that damages artists’ reputations.
