When rats invade kitchens and storerooms, many people rush to buy rat poison. But that poison costs money, and for some families, it is no longer affordable.
Some households are now using a cheaper option: onions.
The method has been shared by Window AG and is spreading by word of mouth in communities.
The idea is simple.
Raw onions are placed in areas where rats are often seen. People say the strong smell keeps rats away, and that onions are harmful to them if eaten.
The advice warns that onions must be raw. Cooked onions do not work.
Households using this method say the onions must be replaced daily because they rot quickly.
Onions are already part of many grocery baskets. Using them avoids spending extra money on poison.
