Police equipment is being used by criminals robbing homes while pretending to be officers in Cape Town.

Three men were arrested with a stolen police bulletproof vest on Friday morning.

Metro Police spokesperson Ruth Solomons said officers found three suspicious men in a black VW Golf near the Zone 14 informal settlement in Bellville.

“They pulled over the vehicle, and one of the three occupants was found wearing a police-issue bulletproof vest and in possession of an imitation firearm. Officers also found tools used to break into vehicles and a car radio in the vehicle,” she said.

The men, aged 34, 36, and 41, were arrested and taken to Bellville SAPS. The vest was reported stolen in Gqeberha.
