A dominant Max Verstappen ensured Red Bull would claim back-to-back constructors titles as the Dutchman pulled past McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to return to winning ways in Japan.
The McLaren duo piled instant pressure on the defending double champ, as the pair attacked him on the inside and outside in the rundown to turn one.
Once Verstappen kept his advantage in the lead, though, there would be no stopping him.
Norris took second spot from his teammate while Charles Leclerc led for Ferrari in fourth spot while Lewis Hamilton took fifth.
Verstappen now holds a 177 point advantage over teammate Sergio Perez in the standings. He will know that a win at next month’s Qatar Grand Prix will see him lift yet another championship.
“Unbelievable weekend, to win here is great. The car was working very well on every compound, but the most important thing was to win the constructors,” Verstappen said post-race.
“The start had too much wheelspin but after that it was quite a straight forward race. We are having an incredible year and I’m very proud of everyone.”
