After being suspended by ActionSA amid sexual assault allegations last year, Abel Tau announced on Tuesday that he’s formed his very own political party.
Tau, who is accused of attempting to rape his childhood friend’s wife, has formed a new party called United Africans Transformation (UAT).
Tau, the former MMC of Human Settlement in Tshwane, has taken his expulsion by ActionSA to court.
Flanked by his wife Thandi at a media briefing in Tshwane, Tau said although he appealed his dismissal, he is not going back to ActionSA.
“It is clear we can no longer work together, I’m appealing the decision based on principle. I want to clear my name,” he said during the conference.
“I did this to ensure that going forward, ActionSA don’t mistreat members as we have seen the spate of expulsions from the party.”
The new party will hit the ground running on Friday with a planned protest in Tshwane. Members are expected to hit the streets to protest against the electricity increase by Nersa.
“When I was called and conversations were happening with some of these men and women who are envisaging a new political vehicle, I got interested and felt that I can play an active role,” he said.
Tau said UAT is going to be a party that is centred around patriotism, law and order, family values and multi-racialism.
“We have already registered with the IEC and in the next few months, we will be officially launching as a political party that will be contesting the 2024 national and provincial elections,” he said.
The new party is also supported by one of the largest churches in the SADC region, the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC).
