Abel Tau battles with ActionSA to clear his name

Expelled ActionSA member Abel Tau says he is challenging the decision the party took to expel him late last year on allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct.

Meanwhile a case of sexual harassment is under police investigation and Tau is appearing in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on 8 March.

Tau said he believes that he is innocent and the only reason why his membership was terminated in the party was that he was politically hunted.

He called the actions of his former party expelling him grossly unfair, unconstitutional, unlawful, unjustifiable, and unsustainable.

He claimed in his court papers (seen by Scrolla.Africa) that there has been no finding of sexual misconduct against him. Yet, he says, he was sanctioned with the heaviest punishment possible: his membership was terminated and his positions in the city of Tshwane revoked.

Tau was a member of the mayoral committee for human settlement in a DA-led multi-party government at the time his membership with ActionSA was terminated.

“I have not been found guilty by any court of law, nor even the disciplinary panel in regard to any of these.

“I do rather feel that I was the victim of an orchestrated plot in order to cause a scandal with certain political objectives as I also stated in the hearing,” he said.

Speaking to Scrolla.Africa, Tau said all he wants is to clear his name and move on with his career. He will be announcing his new political home on Tuesday.

He said he took the appeal to the high court because part of the verdict in the ActionSA judgment clearly stated that there shall be no appeal processes other than to the High Court of South Africa.

Part of the court papers seen by Scrolla.Africa from Abel Tau read: “The purpose of this application is to seek the review and setting aside of the judgment and recommendations taken by the party November 2022.”

Scrolla.Africa spoke to ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba who said Tau enjoys the rights in the constitution of this country and can do what he wants.

Mashaba said he couldn’t comment on details of what Tau is doing because he is not a member of ActionSA.

“He is not a party member and therefore I cannot comment on someone who is not serving the party.”
