The search is on for an aggressive female tiger that escaped on Saturday from a property in the Kliprivier area, south of Johannesburg. All that has been found thus far are her victims.
The tiger was reportedly hand-reared by a property owner who also keeps other wildlife on site, including a male tiger and zebras.
Reported to have been last seen near the Daleside veterinary clinic, the tiger first escaped from its smallholding after the fences were cut open on Saturday night.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello, the tiger has since attacked a 39-year-old man and a dog in the area. Multiple reports have stated that other animals have also fallen victim.
The man is reported to have survived the attack. However, there is no update on the condition of the animals.
“The community members are urged to be on alert,” Sello told Scrolla.Africa.
“The search is conducted by Sedibeng K9, Johannesburg Airwing, Kliprivier crime prevention members and community volunteers.”
Sello warned that those who sight the tiger should not, under any circumstances, approach it. “Instead, contact the Crime Stop Line 08600 10111.”
