A horrifying video widely shared on social media of coronavirus patients dying at an Egyptian hospital because of lack of oxygen has generated outrage.
The video shows nurses battling to keep the patients alive, four of whom died.
The four dead were two women in their 60s and two men, 76 and 44 years old.
The governor of Sharqia province denied that the deaths were caused by a lack of oxygen at the intensive care unit.
But the deaths follow similar allegations by a relative last week that two patients died because of a lack of oxygen at another government-run hospital.
Egypt, like many countries around the world, is facing a surge in confirmed virus cases.
Prosecutors have launched an investigation into the cause of the deaths.
Egypt’s top health authority has announced that a Chinese vaccine made by Sinopharm has been approved for emergency use and inoculations will begin within two weeks.
Overall, Egypt has reported 140,878 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 7,741 deaths. However, the actual number is thought to be much higher.
