The transgender daughter of South African-born billionaire Elon Musk has filed legal documents to change her name as well as her gender designation.
In papers filed at a California court in April, the person formerly known as Xavier said she no longer wants “to live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form”.
Xavier Musk, who turned 18 in April, is also seeking to have her preferred gender identity recognised, reports TMZ.
Xavier, who was born male and later transitioned, wants her name to be changed to Vivian Jenna Wilson.
The name Wilson comes from her Canadian mother, Justine Wilson, who was married to Elon in the early 2000s.
It remains unclear why Xavier wants to disown her billionaire father.
In 2020 Musk tweeted that he supported transgender people but “all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare”.
According to CNBC, the comment got him in trouble with the LGBTQ+ community who called him out and demanded that he apologise for his “insensitive comments”.
Musk has not yet commented on his daughter’s court application.
Xavier’s hearing on the name change is set for this Friday in Santa Monica, California.
