DA – Party leader John Steenhuisen is challenging President Cyril Ramaphosa to a pre-election debate about practical solutions to South Africa’s problems. The DA launched its economic policy manifesto on Friday, unveiling plans to create over two million jobs.
ANC – President Cyril Ramaphosa started his Free State election campaign in Botshabelo on Friday morning. Fighting among ANC factions in the province is threatening the ANC’s dominance in the Free State.
Umkhonto Wesizwe – Jacob Zuma’s party launched its massive election truck, which has a stage that can accommodate 30 dancers and VIPs.
Rise Mzansi – Leader Songezo Zibi will commemorate the 30th anniversary of Freedom Day on Saturday 27 April by embarking on a Freedom Walk through parts of Soweto.
ActionSA – Herman Mashaba and Gauteng premier candidate Funzi Ngobeni will lead the party’s Freedom Day commemoration event in Orange Farm.
Multiparty Charter – Leaders of the coalition grouping met in Benoni to “set out for voters how a Charter Government plans to build a social relief framework for South African households living in poverty”.
IFP – Leader Velenkosini Hlabisa took his election campaign to Mkhondo local municipality in Mpumalanga. The party has a growing support base around Piet Retief and Hlabisa started his campaign at Driefontein taxi rank before proceeding to Sithuli Hleza hall. Hlabisa leads a resurgent IFP that has become a major contender for the premiership of KwaZulu-Natal.
EFF – Fresh from losing by-elections across the country, leader Julius Malema told Wits University students that the party’s position on land expropriation without compensation will never change. The party is positioning itself to be a tiebreaker in provinces where there is no outright winner. As a precondition to getting into any coalition, the EFF wants a future government to agree to implement some of its policies.
