The EFF in KZN is threatening to take the ANC to the Electoral Court if it doesn’t discipline its members who attacked Julius Malema last week.
Malema was on a visit to check the registration process in the Dambuza and kwaMachibisa area while on a campaign trail in Pietermaritzburg when the visit turned violent as ANC members arrived in numbers to block Malema and his leadership from entering the registration station.
The gate of the school where the EFF leadership was visiting was broken in the process.
KZN EFF Chairperson, Vusi Khoza told Scrolla.Africa it is unfortunate that the ANC is trying to take KZN back to the violence of the early 90s and before the 1994 elections.
“Last week the ANC denied that those people who attacked us and our CIC Malema were the members of the ANC, but later they claimed that their comrades were injured during the fight,” said Khoza.
“We wonder how their members got injured if they were not there as the ANC said.”
He said that is why they want to go to the Electoral Court.
“If the ANC fails to punish their members this week we will be left with no choice but to go to court so the ANC can be banned from contesting elections,” he said.
KZN ANC spokesperson, Nhlakanipho Ntombela, said the EFF is the one that entered the IEC precincts in Pietermaritzburg to commit crime.
“What are they waiting for? They should have gone to court a long time ago. They are the ones who attacked our members including the IEC staff. I really don’t understand their complaint,” he said.
“The ANC have already filed a report and laid charges against the EFF.”
IEC spokesperson, Thabani Ngwira said a case was reported to their national legal department regarding the incident.
