In Julius Malema’s hometown of Seshego township outside Polokwane, Limpopo, the EFF is seen as the magic CHARIOT that will lead to the promised land.
When Malema launched his election campaign in September he said the EFF was the right party to govern in Limpopo, especially Polokwane Municipality.
The EFF commands a huge following in ward 13, Seshego, where Malema was born and raised.
Branch leaders said their numbers have been increasing since they won wards 13 and 10 during the 2016 local government elections.
While they still face stiff opposition from the ANC, the majority party in the council, they are optimistic that they will emerge triumphant on 1 November.
The EFF has 27 seats in the council while the ANC leads with 51.
Mathews Leballo, maintained that the EFF deserves a chance to govern and deliver services to the people.
“Since the formation of our party, we have been growing by leaps and bounds. People see us as the alternative party that will save them from the mess created by the ANC,” he said.
Leballo said the EFF is going to capitalise on the ANC’s internal problems.
“The ANC is weak financially and divided over selection processes leading up to the elections. That’s exciting for us and that’s where we are going to beat them,” he said.
ANC councillor candidate, Masilo Manthata said they are equal to the task, insisting that the EFF also has its own shortcomings.
Manthata said, “After the EFF won ward 13, their councillor has done little in terms of service delivery. That’s why we want to win this ward and rectify the mistakes made by their councillors.”
