Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane has decided to quarantine himself at his house after a member of his core staff tested positive for the coronavirus.

The premier has cancelled his public engagement programme, including a weekly press conference he uses to update the province about its Covid-19 containment strategy.

Also cancelled are his planned visits to schools, monitoring the payment of social grants and visits to manufacturing companies.

Meanwhile, Engcobo local municipality mayor Siyabulela Zangqa has been in quarantine for the past eight days after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Eastern Cape currently has 4,111 confirmed cases, 2,123 recoveries and 82 deaths.
