Durban patient gets Covid twice

A Durban doctor says one of his patients has contracted Covid-19 twice within three months.

Dr Yuvan Maharaj, who runs a practice in the suburb of Prospection, said the patient first tested positive on 9 March.

She then tested negative two weeks later, and positive again on 14 July.

The Witness newspaper reports that the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) is monitoring the case.

There have been some reports of reinfection in other countries, and suggestions that immunity after getting the virus does not last long. This is the first recorded possible case of reinfection in SA.
