Seven men and two women were arrested by the Hawks on Monday in Krugersdorp West, where a secret drug lab was uncovered.

Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said the secret drug laboratory was worth millions. Police said the superlab in Pulley Street, Boltonia in Krugersdorp West was operating on a factory scale.

The arrested were between the ages of 18 and 55.

“The discovery of the drug lab was after allegations that surfaced about the operation thereof.

“The members of the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team descended upon the dilapidated factory where they found an assortment of methamphetamine-producing chemicals in large quantities. During the search of the premises, nine (9) suspects including two females were apprehended,” said Mogale.

She said the arrested suspects will make their first appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 14 February facing charges of manufacturing illicit drugs.

The provincial head of the Hawks in Gauteng, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, praised the work of the team and encouraged them to aim for the kingpins.

The investigation continues.
