- Coach Manqoba Mngqithi praised Mamelodi Sundowns’ strong squad after nine new players helped beat Polokwane City 2-0.
- Young players shined with Letlhaku Kutlwano scoring twice and Malibongwe Khoza standing out in his first game.
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi praised his team’s depth after making nine changes and still beating Polokwane City 2-0 on Wednesday to close in on league leaders Orlando Pirates.
Only goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and striker Peter Shalulile kept their places from the team that beat Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 in the Carling Knockout.
“It was impressive to see these boys playing the way they played because it was a risk to a lot of people why I didn’t continue with the other team,” Mngqithi told SuperSport TV.
“But I felt I can trust these boys. I trust what we’re trying to do and I believe it’s going to help us to try and have everybody knowing that he can play at any given stage.”
It was a bold move against a team that beat them 1-0 in the league two weeks ago and pushed them to extra time in the MTN8.
Young stars shone, with Letlhaku Kutlwano scoring twice and defender Malibongwe Khoza making his first start.
Mngqithi has done this before – changing all 11 players against Polokwane City in their earlier league match after playing Royal AM.
