- Two new artists, Nayvee and Thobani White, were chosen for the song after DJ Zinhle listened through thousands of entries.
South African DJ, producer and businesswoman DJ Zinhle has released a new song called Ezothando. She used it to give new artists a chance to break through.
Instead of working only with established names, DJ Zinhle ran an open verse challenge where anyone could send in their work. More than 2,000 artists entered.
After going through the entries, she picked two new artists to feature on the song. Nayvee and Thobani White were chosen from more than 2,000 hopefuls who applied.
DJ Zinhle said the two truly connected to the song’s message.
“They didn’t only sound good. They also felt like a song I was trying to create. It was natural, like they belonged on the record,” she said.
She also spoke about why the challenge mattered to her.
“I understand how hard it is to get a foot in the door. Not everyone has access or opportunities, so if I’m in a position to open that door, even just a little, I’m going to do that,” she said.
She also had a message for young musicians still working their way up.
“Talent alone isn’t always enough. Hard work, consistency and timing play a huge role. Keep showing up and be ready when the opportunity comes,” she said.
