In a video clip that went viral, DJ Zinhle stated that many South African youths struggle to find jobs because they lack employability.
Ntombezinhle Mohosana, known as DJ Zinhle, is a South African DJ, producer, media personality, and businesswoman.
In the clip she highlighted that the youth do not have the necessary skills to take advantage of available job opportunities.
DJ Zinhle has addressed and apologised for her comments, which sparked controversy after a clip of her remarks went viral.
DJ Zinhle said her intention was not to attack the youth but to initiate a conversation on the issue.
She mentioned her role as a small business owner who employs and trains individuals but recognised that this alone does not resolve the broader challenges faced by South African youth.
“I could do more with support from the government,” she said.
“How do we upskill our youth so that they are ready for employment? Are we in denial that we are not getting the jobs we want because we do not have the skills required? Are we in denial that not all the people are getting the education they need to be employable?”
She said people are expressing a one-sided view of graduates, including those with matric certificates or diplomas, who can’t get jobs.
“I’m not saying they don’t need the assistance because they do. But we need to think about the youth holistically so we can challenge the people in power,” she said.
