Radio host and DJ Dineo Ranaka has spoken out about her reasons for leaving Kaya 959, and a night when robbers broke into her home.
Speaking on the Relebogile Mabotja podcast, Dineo said she quit the radio station because of how badly she was treated by some people at work.
“They walked around like we needed to learn from them,” she said. “But I didn’t need their advice. I have skills and experience.”
She felt some of her colleagues looked down on others and acted like they were more important. When she went to management to talk about how unhappy she was, she said they didn’t care.
“The system had no empathy,” she said. “That’s when I knew the place had a problem,” Sunday World reported.
Dineo also spoke about a horrifying robbery at her home in Johannesburg.
She said armed men broke in during the night while her children were asleep in their rooms. The robbers tied her and her helper up in bed.
“One man got on my bed, and I was terrified,” she said. “But I stayed calm. I told him not to take the children’s tablets so they wouldn’t notice the robbery.”
She even pretended she wasn’t alone. “I told them my husband might have taken the car keys,” she said, “even though I live alone.”
“Never let anyone know you live alone,” she said. “When you stay calm, you can think clearly.”
