Diaz dedicates last-gasp goal to kidnapped father

By Razeen Gutta

Liverpool rescued a point from a resilient Luton Town, who were seconds away from causing an unforgettable upset.

Luis Diaz returned to the side after his father was kidnapped in his native Colombia, and — after scoring a dramatic late equaliser — dedicated the goal to him.

In some style, the Hatters held their own on Sunday against a formidable Liverpool side unbeaten in six to draw 1-1.

Star man Darwin Nunez was involved from start to finish, hitting the woodwork early on and missing an array of chances as the game went on.

Jurgen Klopp’s side thought they should have had a penalty at one end, but the hosts stayed laser focused to break to the other. And against all odds, with the cosy atmosphere of fans behind them, Luton went in front in the final ten minutes.

Tahith Chong was the hero — who for the first time at home in the Premier League era put his side into the lead.

The Reds dominated the ball all game, and did so even more so after going behind. Deep in stoppage time, their fight paid its dues as Luis Diaz made it 1-1.

The Colombian was in the squad despite the kidnapping of his parents back home. And he was the saviour for Klopp’s side, who remain in the top four because of that point.

In an earlier game, Nottingham Forest stunned high-flying Aston Villa with a 2-0 win at the City Ground.

Their six game winless streak came to an end with a clinical performance that included just 25% of the ball as Orel Mangala and Nigerian Olaoluwa Aina grabbed the goals.

On Monday night, unbeaten Tottenham Hotspur host Chelsea as the game week culminates with a London derby.
