Defending champions Stellies kicked out of Carling Knockout

Stellenbosch FC’s Carling Knockout journey ended after a 1-0 defeat to Marumo Gallants in the quarter-finals at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Sunday.

Gallants are now through to the semi-finals, joining Mamelodi Sundowns, Richards Bay, and Magesi FC, who also beat TS Galaxy 1-0 at Mbombela Stadium the same day.

In the semi-final draw, Gallants will face Mamelodi Sundowns, who crushed Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Magesi, who previously eliminated Orlando Pirates in the Last-16, will meet Richards Bay in the other semi-final.

The final will be held at Toyota Stadium on 23 November, which could offer home advantage to Gallants if they make it to the final.

This year, Sundowns are the only traditional big club left in the competition after both Chiefs and Pirates were knocked out.

Gallants secured their win over Stellenbosch with a 17th-minute goal from Siyabulela Shai. After scoring, they focused on a strong defensive game to maintain their narrow lead until the final whistle.

In Mpumalanga, Magesi continued their impressive form, defeating TS Galaxy 1-0. Lehlegonolo Mokone’s goal just before halftime was enough to secure the win, leaving TS Galaxy at the bottom of the PSL table without a single victory.

Magesi’s goalkeeper Chipezeze was named Man-of-the-Match for the second time in the competition after his crucial saves kept TS Galaxy from scoring.
